Wellness steps

Care unfolds in three stages, the way a fern unrolls: first relief, then restoring what caused the pain, then keeping it that way. Scroll, or tap a step, to watch it open.

  1. Step 1

    Finding relief

Often people visit their chiropractor because they are in pain. In this first step, the main goal is to reduce your pain symptoms. This can require frequent visits, typically anywhere from two or three times a week to daily visits.

People tend to think they are perfectly healthy if they are not in pain. In reality, lack of pain is a poor indicator of health: many conditions don’t hurt until they are well advanced. A cavity doesn’t hurt while it is forming; it hurts after it has formed.

Chiropractic care will make most of the pain you may be feeling go away. But even when the pain is gone, the underlying condition that caused it may still be there.

  2. Step 2

    Achieving optimal health, together

Eliminating pain is the first step in chiropractic care, but it certainly doesn’t stop there. Most chiropractors consider relieving pain the easiest part. If care stops as soon as the pain stops, the condition that caused it is more likely to come back.

Visits become much less frequent during this correction and restoration phase. In most cases, stretches and exercises, at the office or at home, help speed the healing along.

It is normal to have the occasional flare-up; don’t let it worry you. Flare-ups happen until the body has fully healed. This phase can last from a few months to a few years, depending on how severe the condition is and how long you have had it.

  3. Step 3

    Maintaining your health

Even after your condition has healed, routine visits help make sure it doesn’t come back, and keep your body in its best form, the same way routine diet and exercise do.

Routine chiropractic care helps your joints last longer and spares you much of the pain many people go through. Live life to its fullest and keep doing the activities you love.
